# Subscriptions

Set up, view and manage your subscriptions.

### Set Up A Subscription

### Online Or By Contract

The right route depends on how much flexibility and formality you need.

An online subscription lets you manage billing and seats yourself. You pay by card through **Stripe**, choose monthly or annual billing, and adjust seats when your needs change. Adds and removals are prorated automatically.

Subscribing via contract is arranged through your **Nested Knowledge** contact rather than the checkout. The billing period is flexible, discounts may apply depending on how you choose to pay, and seat changes are handled directly with your contact. This route suits organizations that need invoicing, custom terms, or the enterprise tier. To go this way, email <sales@nested-knowledge.com>.

### Subscribing Online

If you don't already have one, [create a **Nested Knowledge** account](https://nested-knowledge.com/sign-up). Open **Subscriptions** by selecting your name in the top-right corner of any page. You can also go straight to [Subscriptions](https://nested-knowledge.com/manage/subscriptions). Switch between **Individual** and **Organization** to compare tiers. For more prices and tier details, see the [pricing page](https://about.nested-knowledge.com/pricing/).

#### As An Individual

An individual subscription covers your account alone.

1. On **Subscriptions**, select **Individual**.
2. Review the available tiers.
3. Select **Purchase Subscription** for the tier you want.

#### As An Organization

An organization subscription covers everyone in the organization. Billing reflects its current number of users.

1. If needed, [create an organization](https://nested-knowledge.com/manage/organization).
2. On **Subscriptions**, select **Organization**.
3. Select your organization.
4. Select **Purchase Subscription** for the tier you want.

Organizations can also start a pilot on the academic or business tiers. For the enterprise tier, [contact us](mailto:sales@nested-knowledge.com). Academic subscriptions are reviewed before confirmation. See the [academic tier qualifications](/policies/policies/other-policies/academic-tier-qualification.md).

#### Completing Checkout

1. Confirm your tier if it isn't already selected.
2. Accept the [terms and conditions](https://about.nested-knowledge.com/organizations-license-agreement/) and the [billing/fulfillment policy.](/policies/policies/other-policies/fulfillment-policy.md)
3. Select **Checkout**.
4. In **Stripe** checkout, enter your payment details.
5. To change your billing period, select annual billing.
6. To apply a discount, add a promotion code.
7. Select **Subscribe**.

Your subscription activates automatically after payment goes through. If something goes wrong, [contact support](mailto:support@nested-knowledge.com).

### Subscribing Via Contract

To subscribe by contract, email <sales@nested-knowledge.com> with your required seats and preferred billing arrangement. Your **Nested Knowledge** contact sets the tier, billing period, and any applicable discount. They also handle seat changes during the contract, rather than through online checkout.

### Manage Your Subscription

#### Seats

If you subscribed online, change the number of seats at any time from **Subscriptions**. Because billing follows the users currently in the organization, adds and removals are prorated. If you subscribed by contract, your **Nested Knowledge** contact handles seat changes.

#### Billing Period, Promotion Codes And Canceling

Online subscriptions bill monthly or annually through **Stripe**, this is where your online subscription can be managed, updated and cancelled. Access it via the **Subscriptions** page.

### Billing Policy And FAQ

For the formal terms behind all of this—refunds, cancellation, accepted payment methods, card security, and VAT for international customers—see the [billing (fulfillment) policy](/policies/policies/other-policies/fulfillment-policy.md). For quick answers to the questions that come up most often about how billing works day to day, see the [billing FAQ](/account-management/subscriptions/billing-faqs.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/account-management/subscriptions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
