# Overview of AI Tools

Learn where each AI-assisted tool fits in your evidence-synthesis workflow.

AI can be used in every stage of a review in Nested Knowledge and every tool requires your oversight before finalizing.

Below is a short description of each AI tool and what it does organized by review stage.

For the models and data handling behind each tool, see [Disclosure of AI Systems](/policies/policies/artificial-intelligence-policies/disclosure-of-ai-systems-in-nested-knowledge.md).

| Stage                         | Tool                                                                                                                                                                                                               | What It Does                                                                                |

### FAQs

<details>

<summary>Do I have to use these tools?</summary>

No. Every AI tool on this page produces a draft, a recommendation, or a first pass — you can review, edit, or skip any of it and work manually instead.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Where should I start if I'm setting up a new review?</summary>

Most reviewers start with a search-building tool (Smart Search or Search Exploration) but which specific tool fits depends on how much you want AI to draft versus how much you want to build yourself.

See [Quickstart](/get-started/quickstart.md) and [Build with AI.](/get-started/ai-documentation.md)

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can AI make the final screening or extraction decision on its own?</summary>

Not in Screening. Every automated reviewer or extractor here produces a first pass for a human to review.

Yes in Tagging/Extraction — if you give the tool permission, it will apply extracted data for you to review. You can also have it generate recommendations instead.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Where do I find out what model or data-handling policy powers a specific tool?</summary>

See [Disclosure of AI Systems](/policies/policies/artificial-intelligence-policies/disclosure-of-ai-systems-in-nested-knowledge.md) — this page covers what each tool does, not what's underneath it.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/ai-transparency/ai-in-nested-knowledge/overview-of-ai-tools.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
