# Manage Or Remove Members

Manage access level of or remove your Organization members.

Membership changes as responsibilities shift and people leave. Organization membership gives people inherited nest access. Changing or ending membership affects every nest they can reach.

{% hint style="info" %}
Only an Organization's Owner and Admins can manage members. Review the effect of each action before you make it.
{% endhint %}

### Change A Member's Role

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open Your Organization

Select the user menu in the top right, then select **Organizations**. Select the Organization where you edit a member's role.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Find The Member

On your Organizations page, find the person in the members list.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Select The Role

Change the role between **Organization Member** and **Organization Admin**. See [Roles](/collaborate/member-management/roles.md) for each role's permissions.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Changing an Organization role also changes inherited nest access. An **Organization Admin** has Admin access on nests the Organization owns. An **Organization Member** has User access. See [Permissions and inheritance](/collaborate/member-management/permissions-and-inheritance.md).

Ownership is separate from roles. An Owner can reassign ownership to another person. This demotes the original Owner to Admin. Only the new Owner can reverse the change. To change the Organization's Owner, contact Nested Knowledge to verify the handover.

### Remove A Member

{% hint style="danger" %}
Removing a member does not remove them from nests they own. Have them transfer ownership before removing them.
{% endhint %}

To remove a member, select the trash-can icon beside them in the members list. Removing someone revokes their access to the Organization's nests. You don't need to remove their access nest by nest.

### Withdraw A Pending Invite

Withdrawing an unaccepted invitation differs from removing a member. In the **Invite Members** modal, select the trash-can icon beside the pending invitation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/collaborate/member-management/manage-or-remove-members.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
