# Keyboard Shortcuts

Reference keyboard shortcuts for screening and tag-hierarchy editing.

Keyboard shortcuts let you screen records and edit tag hierarchies without using a mouse.

### Screening Shortcuts

Use these shortcuts when screening records with **Exclusion Reasons**.

To open **Keyboard Shortcuts** on the main **Screening** page, use:

* Mac: `Control` + `Shift` + `S`
* Windows: `Ctrl` + `Shift` + `S`

Turn on the toggle in the **Keyboard Shortcuts** modal. You can then use:

* `a` — advance during **Abstract Screening**
* `i` — include during **Full Text Screening**
* `1` through `9` — select the first nine exclusion reasons

Shortcuts are available only with **Exclusion Reasons**, not **Criteria-Based Screening**. They work in both **Dual Screening** modes, including on adjudication pages.

To turn shortcuts off, open the **Keyboard Shortcuts** modal and turn off the toggle. This doesn't change existing decisions.

### Tag Hierarchy Shortcuts

A tag captures data from a study. Copy a tag and its child tags to reuse part of your tag hierarchy.

1. On **Configure Tag Hierarchy**, select **Copy & Paste**.
2. Select the tag to copy.
3. Copy the tag with the appropriate shortcut.
4. Select a destination tag.
5. Paste the copied tag with or without its child tags.

If you don't select a destination tag, the copied tag becomes a root tag.

| Function                         | Mac                 | Windows/PC             |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------- | ---------------------- |
| Copy selected tag and child tags | `⌘` + `C`           | `Ctrl` + `C`           |
| Paste copied tag only            | `⌘` + `Shift` + `V` | `Ctrl` + `Shift` + `V` |
| Paste copied tag and child tags  | `⌘` + `V`           | `Ctrl` + `V`           |

### Study Inspector Shortcuts

Use the left and right arrow keys to move between filtered studies in **Study Inspector**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/resources/keyboard-shortcuts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
