# Troubleshooting Basics

Quick fixes for common Nested Knowledge issues.

Use these checks when the **Nested Knowledge** tool doesn't behave as expected. Start with the page-specific steps, then try the general checks.

### Pages Aren't Loading

Loading issues can come from a temporary connection loss or stored browser data. The message you see determines the first step.

#### You See A **Time Out** Page

The request took longer than expected. Refresh the page once.

If it times out again, [hard refresh your browser](#hard-refresh-your-browser). Then try the action again.

#### You See A **Connection Lost** Page

Check that your internet connection is active. Reload the page after the connection returns.

If the page continues to disconnect, try another network. Contact support if the issue affects other websites or repeats.

### Hard Refresh Your Browser <a href="#hard-refresh-your-browser" id="hard-refresh-your-browser"></a>

A hard refresh reloads the page without using stored files. Use it when a normal refresh doesn't address the issue.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Chrome" %}
On **Windows**, hold `Ctrl` and press `F5`. On **Mac**, hold `Command` and `Shift`, then press `R`.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Firefox" %}
On **Windows**, hold `Ctrl` and press `F5`. On **Mac**, hold `Command` and `Shift`, then press `R`.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Safari" %}
Empty the cache with `Option` + `Command` + `E`. Then refresh the page with `Command` + `R`.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Edge" %}
Hold `Ctrl` and press `F5`.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

### Other General Checks

Try these checks when the issue isn't limited to one page.

1. Open Nested Knowledge in a private browsing window. This checks whether stored browser data or an extension causes the issue.
2. Disable browser extensions temporarily. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can prevent parts of a page from loading.
3. Use Chrome, Firefox, or Edge on a desktop device. See [supported platforms](/resources/support/supported-platforms.md) for details.
4. Sign out, then sign back in. This refreshes your session.

### Get Help

If the issue continues, contact [Nested Knowledge support](mailto:support@nested-knowledge.com). Include the nest link, your browser, the steps you took, and any error message.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/resources/support/troubleshooting-basics.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
