# Insights on Qualitative Synthesis

Learn how to add manual insights onto the Qualitative Synthesis page.

Insights let you identify and surface a key conclusion directly within Qualitative Synthesis. Choose Insights (manually authored) over [**Smart Insights**](/review-workflow/synthesis/set-up-synthesis-outputs/smart-insights.md) when you have a small number of specific, hand-picked findings to highlight rather than a broad AI-generated summary across many tags.

{% hint style="info" %}
This is the only setup that takes place in Qualitative Synthesis space as a reviewer. Everything else occurs in AutoLit.
{% endhint %}

### Creating An Insight

You need to be in **Qualitative Synthesis** to draft an Insight, since it involves configuring the sunburst diagram itself. Insights are currently only available on Qualitative Synthesis.

1. Navigate to [Qualitative Synthesis](/review-workflow/synthesis/navigate-synthesis-outputs/qualitative-synthesis.md). The number beside **Insights**, bottom left, shows how many Insights exist on the nest; with AutoLit access, this becomes a **+** button.
2. Select **+** to add a new Insight.
3. **Title** it with a brief phrase naming the topic and finding (for example, "Thrombectomy significantly improves Neurological Outcomes").
4. Write the **Text** — brief, but complete enough that a reader who drills into the associated studies gets the full picture of your conclusion.
5. **Configure** the sunburst to the tags your Insight is about — filter to exactly the segments (interventions, outcomes, comparators) that support your finding.
6. Select **Create**.

To edit an Insight later, select its pencil icon in the listing; to delete one, select the trash icon. Deletion is irreversible.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/review-workflow/synthesis/set-up-synthesis-outputs/insights-on-qualitative-synthesis.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
