# Explore from Study Inspector

Learn how to explore a filtered set of studies.

Use **Explore from Study Inspector t**o explore what PICOs recur in a filtered set of studies, which topics and keywords dominate, how publication dates are distributed across your review's studies and more. It runs the same analysis as **Search Exploration.**

### Run Explore On A Filtered Set

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Filter The Study List

In **Study Inspector**, filter the studies you want to explore. See [Filter Studies.](/review-workflow/study-inspector/filter-studies.md)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Run Explore

Select **Explore** in the bottom left.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Review The Outputs

Review PICOs, study type, study location, study size, topics, acronyms, keywords, and publication-date distribution.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Implications

Explore reflects whatever filter is currently applied, including an empty filter, which includes every study in the nest.

### FAQs

<details>

<summary>Can I run Explore on excluded studies?</summary>

Yes. Explore works on whatever your current filter returns, so filter to Final Screening Status: Excluded first if that's the set you want to see.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How is this different from Search Exploration?</summary>

Same underlying tools, different scope and stage. Search Exploration works on current live search results that are not yet in your nest; Explore runs on studies in your nest. It uses any current Study Inspector filter, at any point in your workflow, and adds a publication-date snapshot that Search Exploration doesn't show.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does Explore read full texts or abstracts?</summary>

Like Search Exploration, Explore reads abstracts.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nested-knowledge.com/review-workflow/study-inspector/explore-from-study-inspector.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
